The College of Liberal Arts presents the University Forum Lecture: The Arab Spring: On the Border Line between Religiosity and Democracy a talk by Mustapha Marrouchi, Professor, Rogers Fellow in Postcolonial Literature, Department of English, UNLV
A great clamor for change has arisen in the Arab world. It has implications not just for the region but also for the rest of the world – the US in particular. Today, a newly formed Islam is emerging. Could it become the best bet for the “orderly transition” that the Arab world and the rest of us had hoped for or are we in for a surprise? The dictators may be gone, but an unpredictable new system of government (namely Islamism) is waiting to answer the call.
